To be completely honest, I wasn’t sure if I really were to include Marilyn Jess in this blog’s “classic edition” installment until, well, yesterday (!). I already had some great French pornstars on this list, most of them even active at the same time – we’re talking the 1980’s here – and none of them would surpass my first true porn love, the legendary Olinka, anyway. Marilyn Jess in particular seemed to close a call to Ms. Hardiman, both being hardcore versions of Marilyn Monroe (Olinka’s characters often being called Marilyn while Mme Jess even choosing MM’s first name for her porn moniker), bleach-blonde yet all natural in their voluptuously curvy beauty, and staples of the Golden Age of French porn cinema when budgets were big and movies actually contained scripts. So what made me include Marilyn Jess anyway?
Well, like I said in numerous other entries, just fucking look at her. You can never have enough of those classic naturally sexy beauties, nor remind current porn-loving audiences enough of times when plastic surgery wasn’t a given and some extra meat here and there wasn’t considered a hindrance for a performer’s erotic attraction.
That said, Marilyn Jess definitely was and still is considered an icon of French porn, adding a youthful appearance and an insatiable hunger for sex on screen to the mold. Many starlets today go for the combination of dark eyes and light hair, but Marilyn was one of the first to make a trademark out of it. Plus, she had that killer combination of big tits and great ass plus an extremely youthful beauty that made her stand out among her peers.
Originally calling herself Marilyn Wild until discovering that an American starlet already had taken that moniker, Marilyn Jess entered the porn business at the earliest possible legal age in 1977 when she appeared in “Collegiennes A Tout Faire” with only 18 summers under her belt. The aforementioned French XXX trailblazer Brigitte Lahaie had Marilyn appear in a few of her movies before the newcomer broke big in the comparatively costly production “La Femme Objet” which came out in 1980. (Conveniently for Marilyn’s future career this also marked Brigitte’s retirement, leaving the throne of French porn royalty vacant…)
Both critics and audiences had already fallen in love with Marilyn’s no-holds-barred attitude during her B-list times and as soon as she went top billing her movies drew strong support through her name alone. Whether it was orgies, golden showers or mostly anything else, Marilyn was eager to try it out.
She often shared the screen with contemporary stars like Julia Perrin or Olinka in films like “Dans la Chaleur de St. Tropez” or “Le Retour De Marilyn” but for example dared to go anal where Mme Hardiman steered clear of anything related to ass exploration… Here’s Marilyn taking it up the ass in her 1979 movie “Gamines en Chaleur”:
In 1984, Marilyn married porn director Francis Leroi (often billed as Michel Barny) and although she continued to make movies and even crossed over to American audiences in scenes with big names like Porsche Lynn or Jeannie Pepper, gradually her appearances in XXX movies became fewer.
Some credit this to the rise of VHS porn with its inferior yet much less expensive quality while stars like Marilyn had thrived on classy, glossy big budget productions like they had been made in the 1970’s and early 1980’s. One of her last big scenes was in the infamous’ Traci Lords’s final (and only legally produced) XXX movie “Traci I Love You” in 1987 where the two stars celebrate the French-American friendship in a hot lesbian scene.
Marilyn Jess finally left the XXX movie industry soon after, continuing to do exotic dancing in Paris strip-clubs until the early 1990’s. Age progression had also finally taken its toll on her ability to come across as a teenage broad even though she was closer to modern MILF age than “Only 18” by the end of her career. Furthermore, the great AIDS scare of the 1980’s made her reconsider her future career as well. Thus Marilyn disappeared from the porn radar to focus on her family life – she gave birth to two children – and, unlike her peers Brigitte Lahaie or Catherine Ringer who went on to be public figures in other fields, was hardly heard of in the next twenty years.
So to get back to my inital question why Marilyn Jess is included in this list: She simply was one of the most beautiful, daring, cross-continentally succesful and overall gorgeous pornstars of her time, and if fate hadn’t handed me Olinka as my personal Euro porn icon first, Marilyn definitely would have been a contender for that position too.
