ELO выпустила 11 студийных альбомов в период между 1971 и 1986 годом и один альбом в 2001. ELO (совместная идея Роя Вуда и Джеффа Линна) была сформирована, чтобы удовлетворить горячее желание писать «классическую» поп-музыку. Группа экспериментировала в различных музыкальных направлениях: от прогрессивного рока до поп-музыки. С самого начала деятельности группы Джефф Линн решал все организационные вопросы, написал все оригинальные композиции группы и продюсировал каждый альбом.
Первый успех группу ожидал в Соединённых Штатах, где они были представлены как «Английские парни с большими скрипками». К середине 1970-х они стали одними из самых продаваемых музыкальных групп. С 1972 по 1986 год ELO сочетали работу в Великобритании и Штатах. Группа просуществовала до 1986 года, после чего Джефф Линн распустил её.
