Eternal Tapestry Psych-rocking space travelers Eternal Tapestry hail from Portland, Oregon, and were founded by Nick Bindeman (Jackie-O Motherfucker) and Dewey Mahood (Plankton Wat), who came together musically around their joint worship of the music of Neu! and guitarist Sonny Sharrock. They were joined in 2006 by Nick's brother Jed (Heavy Winged/Jackie-O Motherfucker). This trio released a number of LPs, CDs, EPs, and even cassettes, including Vibrations, New Dawn, Mystic Induction, and Altar of Grass (all in 2007), and Declining Star and Sea of Silk (in 2008). In 2009, Ryan Carlile joined the band on saxophone and synth; they released The Invisible Landscape, Palace of the Night Skies, The Hidden Revealed (cassette only), and the live CD-R Spring Tour. Bassist Krag Likins joined the group in 2010, and Eternal Tapestry spent time refining their sound and touring that year. Some of the bandmembers participated in other projects as well. Mahood issued the blissed-out space dub album Edibles under his Plankton Wat moniker; he and Jed also collaborated with the members of Barn Owl and recorded the full-length Black Summit as Garden Sound. In addition, Heavy Winged issued Sunspotted and Fields Within Fields in 2010. Eternal Tapestry signed to Chicago's Thrill Jockey in 2010 to record their first album as a quintet, Beyond the 4th Door; it was released in early 2011, and was followed in July of that year by Night Gallery, a collaborative long-player with Sun Araw. Dawn in Two Dimensions was released in June of 2012, while World Out of Time followed in November.
Sun Araw Cameron Stallones is an American musician who works under the name Sun Araw. Previously a member of the band Magic Lantern, he has released several albums of experimental music, including a collaboration with Jamaican reggae group The Congos. He has also worked as part of the Not Not Fun label 'supergroup' Vibes.
Two heavyweight champions of nocturnal psychedelia, Sun Araw and Eternal Tapestry, dropped one of the heaviest and most exciting collaborative projects of the year. Night Gallery, named after Rod Sterling's campy early '70s NBC show, is the result of one, cohesive, 45-minute jam, recorded in-studio for UT-Austin's KVRX during last year's South By Southwest. Don't let the improvisational nature of the performance startle you, however; the two never noodle or bore. Instead, they play off the other's strengths in a focused show of dusty, monolithic, mystical desert drone. Put some peyote in your pipe and dig on the ominous and cinematic "III" below.
