The following is a review of the unrated 106-minute version of Temptations (1999). This title has been rated on the basis of how well a Skinemax movie it is and not in comparison to other genres.
Temptations is a softcore movie that I think would be most enjoyed by late-twenty-, early-thirty-something couples. Basically, it involves a tight-knit group of friends comprised of two tandems and a pair of eligible singletons who have gathered at the ranch owned by Dylan (Brad Bartram) and his wife Claire (Allison Thomas-Miller) for a few weeks in the summer.
It's a cozy setting, one of sunshine, picnic baskets, and green grass, where the lemonade, wine, and friendly laughter flows. The six characters are all likable and on each other's side. There's no rivalry amongst them. The sextet behave like one big palsy-walsy family. These folks all get along and pull for one another. These are mature, responsible people, with depth ... unlike most characters in this genre.
Indeed, Temptations may just be one of the best-acted films within the Eros Collection. All of the performances are strong, convincing, three-dimensional, sympathetic, even cinematic.
The production values are as good as any theatrical release, too.
The winnowed moments calculated: There is a whopping 12 sex scenes here (11 heterosexual and 1 lesbian). Yes, tons of saddling. Of the 11, 4 involve Lauren Hays, 3 involve Allison Thomas-Miller, and 2 involve Monique Parent, here looking the best she ever has, adorned in a pretty floral-patterned dress throughout much of the picture and with blonde curls that fittingly suits her attractive pale pigmentation. (With Hays and Parent in the only lesbian scene.)
Lauren Hays appears to be in her prime, too, looking spectacular in cut-off blue-jean shorts and a halter top. As the movie opens, hardly a word of dialogue has been spoken and Beverly (Lauren Hays) and John (Julian T. Brown) are squeezing the teats and milking the ole udder inside a barn, literally hitting the hay the only way hay ought to be hit, doin' it backward cowgirl style, with Bev's boots left on and made for more than walkin'. This hayride is smokin'. It works up to a satisfying climax for both Beverly and her gratifier.
Rounding out the six characters are Charlene (Monique Parent), an accountant from the city and long-time gal pal of Beverly's, and Tanner (Jay Huguley), a farmhand whom Charlene is attracted to on a strictly physical level.
It is also somewhat refreshing to see a softcore movie that has a married couple, in that of Dylan and Claire, doting on each other and not even thinking of ever giving in to the temptation of infidelity. Their relationship is solid and based on deep love. It shows in their sex scenes. Who knew marital intercourse could be this erotic? In their first love scene, Claire makes excellent use of a lawn hose. The second one is a knee-trembler that takes place underneath an outdoor shower. (Claire sure likes her water!) And the third is very sexy, that has Claire's hubby feeding her oranges and then squeezing orange pieces atop her naked, recumbent body.
Not all is sunshine and roses for the happily married couple, though. The bank is threatening to foreclose on their homestead. Meanwhile, a vandal is running loose in the area, destroying the private property that is Dylan's and Claire's ranch equipment.
Temptations also includes my favorite Monique Parent sex scene of all time. It has her character Charlene being administered the pelvic thrust.
