"The Devil Inside Her" is set in England in 1826. Faith loves the gardener Joseph,but her father forbids it. Faith's sister Hope lusts after Joseph and sells her souls to the Devil to get Jospeh for herself. Zebedy Colt was the director of several truly depraved porno roughies including "Sex Wish" and "Unwilling Lovers". "The Devil Inside Her" is also a pretty twisted film with rather interesting plot. Still the hard core sex scenes in this one are slightly disappointing - they are very short and sometimes unerotic. Still there is plenty of vaginal sex with blow jobs, both female and male masturbation, lesbianism and sexual orgies. The location sets are great as they add to the overall mood of the film. So if you enjoyed "Sex Wish" or Alex De Renzy's "Femmes de Sade" you may give this porno horror a try. 7 out of 10. Oh, those filthy Puritans! This must be the work of the devil! Who knew you could do porn while playing to a classical literary device? Apparently, Zebedy Colt did as he proves with his period piece -- no pun intended -- The Devil Inside Her (1977). The opening credits of the film set the story in "New England 1826." Ezekial Hammond (Colt) toils on his farm with his wife and two coming-of-age daughters.
One afternoon, Ezekiel discovers Faith (Terri Hall) kissing his hired help, Joseph (Tait). He orders her to strip and provides her with a healthy dose of lashes and Joseph runs into the wilderness. It is there, that he meets Satan who overtakes Joseph and enters the farm to smite all things pure. Satan then sets out to possess every member of the small clan to defile their puritan sensibilities. Once Ezekiel has discovered his plot to sacrifice Faith at the alter, he sets out to foil Satan's plan--but not before several members of his clan are forcefully DP'd and golden showered.
OK, that sums up the story. The interesting factor is in the way this story plays on Hawthorne's The Scarlet Letter to a good degree. Maybe it's a stretch, but a major theme in Hawthorne's Puritan love/debauch story relies on the Puritan belief that Satan resided in the wilderness, which reinforced the idea that home and community were the only safe environments. With The Devil Inside Her, this is also the case. For Zebedy Colt, this would be an easy task. In addition to acting and directing porn, Colt was also a playwright and a musician forming one of the earliest all-gay revues in 1970. What's to say he didn't use this film to play with the concept of evil, even if the outcome is a bit campy.
The Devil Inside Her actually improves with each viewing. The first time around the film may seem a little over the top. However, on a second watch, you may actually have fun with this one. Also, note Satan's face paint -- KISS also debuted in 1977. This coincidence will make you wonder who was first. What was the likelihood of a young Gene Simmons sitting through this film in one of Detroit's better known Grindhouses when he found just the look he needed? A genuinely surprising `Adults Only' horror movie, The Devil Inside Her is more likely to give potential late night viewers nightmares rather than a cheap thrill. In 1826 New England, the two daughters of a repressed farmer (played by director Colt) secretly fawn over a blonde farmhand. The farmer finds out about the farmhand's relationship with the younger daughter and fires him, then punishes the younger daughter. Meanwhile the older daughter, secretly in love with the farmhand hopes to win him back by invoking the Devil with the help of a forest witch. As befits a film of the genre the Devil magically has his wicked way with most of the cast, disguising himself as various family members (both male and female) with only Devil eye make-up to give away his identity. No wonder that `Zebedy Colt' was the well guarded pseudonym of a on/ off Broadway actor. Most of Colt's directing work sets about documenting the psychosis of the seedier side of life in the 1970's- female vigilantes in Terry's Sweet Revenge (1975) urban stalkers in Sex Wish (1975), The Devil Inside Her would appear to be his only movie with either fantasy elements or a period setting. Although it will never be mistaken for anything other than a rough around the edges exploitation movie The Devil Inside Her is well shot and the budget high enough to capture the feel of 18th century New England. All the more surprising when you realise that producer Leon De Leon is aka Leonard Kirtman, director of Carnival of Blood, surely one of the most cash strapped horror movies ever released to theatres. It's not all great though, the Devil scenes, the backbone of the film are hit and miss. The Devil's attack on the farmer's wife climaxing with him bellowing smoke, and a vision of hell that other movies daren't even think about are terrifying and hard to forget. Unfortunately for all the nice period settings Colt's monster is a creature of 1976 rather than 1826. Dressed in a dog collar, a cape and overdone face paint, for all the build up he's less the Prince of Darkness than a drunk Kiss groupie whose friends have stolen his clothes and left him in a new England field. Likewise some may gasp at the primitive special effects of people disappearing into puffs of smoke that resemble a crude magic show, but personally I think this only adds to the film's low budget charm. As wild and shocking as open minded 70's `sinema' demanded. Lovers of the most outrageous exploitation films and cult film fare should seek The Devil Inside Her out as for students of the cinema of the sensational this is great stuff, the mere curious however should run from this faster than you can say `Filth Hounds of Hades'. Убитая горем Рыжая сестра пошла в лес и стала взывать к Силам Зла, после чего в кадре возник Аццкая Сотона, весь голый. Чтобы зрителю было понятно, что это именно Аццкая Сотона, актеру раскрасили лицо, будто он музыкант группы "Kiss" и сделали рога из волос. Сотона сначала вращал глазами и языком, а потом схватил себя одной рукой за член, другой — за яйца и начал тянуть их в разные стороны. Дотянув яйца примерно до пупка, Сотона обратился в Прекрасного Блондина, тоже голого. Чтобы зрителю было понятно, что это таки Сотона, Блондину обильно накрасили глаза и он высовывал язык, как змея. В таком виде Блондин спустился к реке, положил Брюнетку лицом вниз, задрал ей подол и огорчил ее, снасильничав. Во время соития корчил рожи и ругался матом, чем огорчил ее еще раз. Она сказала, что папа был прав. Тем временем, Рыжая сестра дошла до ведьмы и та синим дымом превратила своего попугая в голого мужика с усами. Голый мужик с усами сидел на ветке, свесив, и жестами показывал нам, что он все-таки птица. Его сманили вниз, сестра сделала ему минет и из его спермы было изготовлено зелье. Когда сестра удалилась, из шатра ведьмы вышел Аццкая Сотона в красном плаще, распахнул его и все мы увидели, что мошонка Сотоны перетянута золотым браслетом. Сестра дошла до поляны, разделась, выпила зелья и ее вставило. В смысле, она очутилась в коленно-локтевой на покрывале, а позади нее стоял Аццкая Сотона (медведь не приходил). Аццкая Сотона кончил, превратился в Брюнетку (с накрашенными глазами) и ушел совращать Прекрасного Блондина, а сестра тем временем сбегала на огород и принесла оттуда морковь, кукурузу и банан, но есть их не стала. Сотона в виде Брюнетки удивил Прекрасного Блондина, потом превратился в папу (с накрашенными глазами), побежал обратно к той сестре, которая огородничала, и всячески ее удовлетворил. В это время настоящий папа случайно проходил мимо с граблями. Увидев, что творится, настоящий папа отбросил грабли и протер глаза: Сотона превратился из папы в Сотону, а потом в Чорного Дога и бросился на папу (на самом деле это выглядело так: папа крепко держал дога за шкирку, чтобы тот сразу не удрал, и засовывал животному руку в рот). Дог был побежден и бежал, поджав хвост. Папа сел рядом с дочерью и беседовал с нею до тех пор, пока она не исчезла. Обесчещенная настоящая Брюнетка пришла к маме, почему-то голая. Мама накрыла ее тем самым покрывалом, пощупала дочери сиськи и произвела беглый гинекологический осмотр, но тут в дом ворвался Аццкая Сотона в своем обычном виде Аццкой Сотоны, напугал маму до беспамятства, после чего овладел ее телом, причем буквально — кончив, он обратился мамой (с накрашенными глазами) и трахнул Брюнетку розовым страпоном. Тут вернулся папа и заметил, что дома у него происходит безобразие. Папа выскочил во двор, смастерил два креста и побежал гонять нечистую силу. По дороге он встретил Прекрасного Блондина и они долго бежали лесом. Пока они бежали, Аццкая Сотона, ведьма, Рыжая сестра, афроамериканец, Попугай и еще какие-то люди совершали оргию. По случаю оргии, Аццкая Сотона привязал себе мошонку к ноге бечевкой. После оргии участники достали откуда-то Брюнетку и собрались принести ее в жертву, но тут прибежали папа с Блондином и разогнали нечистую силу к ее матери. Прекрасный Блондин взял свою возлюбленную (на руки) и они с папой пошли домой.
Возле дома их встретила очухавшаяся мать, Брюнетка тоже пришла в себя, Блондин обнял ее и родители благословили их.
